Home Run Readers
In order to participate, you agree to the following conditions:
- Challenge runs from March 3, 2025 through March 23, 2025.
- Only out-of-school reading counts.
- Time parents or guardians read aloud to the student may count.
- Each school must designate a coordinator for this program.
- The coordinator will be given a reporting spreadsheet, a copy of which should be given to each participating classroom teacher. Teachers will use this to enter their student’s names an to log reading minutes throughout the competition.
- Each coordinator will then use the spreadsheet to compile students’ reading minutes for the entire school.
- Reading minute logged as follows:
- Students will record reading minutes on their logs, have parents sign, and return log to teacher each Monday.
- Classroom teachers are responsible for logging their classroom minutes onto reporting spreadsheet provided.
- Teachers submit classroom sheet to program coordinator who will compile school’s totals.
- Coordinator sends one report for entire school to the program coordinator at the NY Boulders no later than April 7, 2025.
If you choose to participate, your school will be provided with the following items:
- Contest Instructions & Rules.
- A letter to copy for parents (Spanish letter upon request).
- A paper tracking log for students to record their minutes.
- A reporting spreadsheet to track students minutes.
Prizes for Students are as follows:
- Single (under 400 minutes) – Participation Certificate.
- Double (at least 400 minutes) – Participation Certificate. Plus, Two (2) Tickets to a specified 2025 Boulders Game.
- Triple (at least 800 minutes) – Participation Certificate. Plus, Four (4) Tickets to a specified 2025 Boulders Game.
- Home Run (1300 minutes or more) – Participation Certificate, Four (4) Tickets to a specified 2025 Boulders game, a first pitch at specified game and T-shirt!
- Top Reader – On-Field recognition at a Boulders home game, autographed baseball and picture with manager and BoulderBird!
*Student prizes are as listed and not cumulative and are subject to change due to safety protocols and regulations.
Teacher/Program Administrator/Principal prizes are as follows:
- Any teacher that has their classroom participate in this challenge, the Program Coordinator and Principal will be awarded five ticket vouchers redeemable for any Boulders’ game for the 2025 season and a 20% off merchandise coupon for the team store!
Top five schools with the most participation will receive a suite for a NY Boulders game for 15 staff members (food included!)
The top individual school will also receive $250 towards a school Amazon wish list!
Prize and Game Day Details
Upon the program’s culmination, certificates will be distributed to schools for their students. If there is a QR code on the participation certificate, parents can scan the code to redeem the tickets earned to one of the specified games to celebrate their child’s reading achievement!
Celebration games will be on May 27, May 29, and May 31*

Read for the New York Boulders - Home Run Reading Challenge
The New York Boulders have formed a partnership to promote literacy in area schools. Since 2013, the reading program’s success has grown each year, with a record number of students participating last year.
